50ohm coaxial cable

50ohm coaxial cable is widely used in MRI coils: they are commonly used as signal transmission lines. These coaxial cables are usually in the form of bundles of multi coax cable and are extensively employed to connect MRI coils to the transmit/receive components or internal elements within the coils.

The 50 ohm coaxial cable is a standard type of coaxial cable known for its stable impedance, high signal transmission quality, and low interference. In high-frequency applications such as signal transmission in MRI coils, impedance matching is crucial to ensure signal quality and maximize power transmission. Therefore, the 50 ohm rf cable possesses excellent impedance characteristics, enabling optimal signal transmission performance.

There are two main 50 ohm coaxial cable types in MRI system:RG 178(30AWG,which is a low loss 50 ohm coax cable) and 32AWG (which is a flexible thin 50 ohm coax cable)

Moreover, using 50Ω coaxial cables in MRI coils reduces signal reflection and loss. As MRI coils generate complex signals, including high-frequency and high-speed transmissions, it is essential to maintain signal transmission quality within the coils. By employing 50-ohm coaxial cables, signal reflection and loss can be minimized, thereby enhancing the reliability and accuracy of signal transmission and reception.
Teflon coax 50 ohm maybe the best 50 ohm coax cable because of its materials and production method. Among many types of coax cable, Telfon can make the insulation as thin as possible and meanwhile the capacitance as small as possible. So in MRI systems, the multi coax cable (No matter it is pure coaxials or combining coax and signal wire, 50 ohm teflon coaxial cable is always the first choice

In MRI systems, it is common to use multiple 50ohm coaxial cable or a combination of multiple 50ohm coaxial cables and additional signal wires. This combination is used for specific reasons related to signal transmission and system design.

The use of multiple 50 ohm coax or a combination of coaxial cables and signal wires serves several purposes:

Signal Separation: MRI systems involve transmitting and receiving multiple signals simultaneously. By using multiple coaxial cables or a combination of coaxial cables and signal wires, it becomes possible to separate different signals and route them appropriately to the transmit/receive components or internal elements within the coils. This helps maintain signal integrity and minimize interference between individual signals.

Increased Bandwidth: MRI systems often require high-frequency signal transmission. Using multiple 50-ohm coaxial cables or a combination of coaxial cables and signal wires can increase the overall bandwidth by allowing parallel signal transmission paths. This can help accommodate the high-speed data transfer requirements of MRI systems and improve the overall system performance.

Flexibility and Modularity: Different MRI coil designs may have varying requirements for signal routing and connections. Employing a combination of coaxial cables and signal wires offers flexibility in terms of cable routing and allows for modular design approaches. It provides the ability to customize the connection layout according to the specific requirements of the MRI system and coil design.

By utilizing multiple 50-ohm coaxial cables or a combination of coaxial cables and signal wires, MRI systems can achieve efficient signal separation, increased bandwidth, and design flexibility. These factors contribute to improved signal transmission quality and overall performance of the MRI system.
