you may buy a 28 awg 4 core shielded cable at 0.1USD/Meter(such as the cable used in USB cable assemly),PVC insulation,PVC Jacket,OD arround 3.5mm.

you may also buy a shield wire 4 core at 4USD/Meter(if the wires are using Silver plated copper as conductor,Teflon as insulation and Medical grade silicone rubber as Jacket)

The price difference is even so big (up to 40 times) when the gauge is similar,only different in materials.If considering the gauge,the difference may even much bigger.

•  Conductor structures and gauge:the more copper it used,the more expensive;the higher end conductor it uses,the more expensive,in some applications,there are even pure Silver wire as conductor
• Insulation Materials:Usually PP/PVC/TPE insulated wires will be cheap,and Teflon(FEP,PFA,PTFE,ETFE)/Silicone Rubber insulated wire will be much more expensive(several times higher than PP/PVC/TPE)
• Shielding Methods and Shielding rate:the cost for shielding is usually AL foil＜Spiral Shield＜Braiding Shielding.Double shielding(i.e. a conbination of different shielding methods,or the same shielding method,such as Double Spiral).
• Jacket Materials and Thickness:This issue is similar to the insulation .In some applications,the Jacket must be resistant to harsh environment,such has extreme high or low temperature,chemical,oil… Silicone rubber or Teflon become the only choices;Jacket marials have different grades:the highest grade is Medical grade,then Food grade,then commercial grade…This also cause a big different in cost
